A Guide to the Ultimate Spider-Man Collection
If you're a Spider-Man fan or seeking that perfect gift for someone who is, you can't go wrong with the Ultimate Spider-Man Collection. This is a giant hardcover volume put together by author Brian Michael Bendis and includes the first three complete hardcover volumes in one fantastic collection. Read on to find out a bit of what you can expect with this book:
In this collection, you'll be introduced to the beginning storyline which features Peter Parker as a young teen and Mary Jane Watson as the girl next door. Peter, an orphan, lives with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben. As the original story goes, he is bitten by a spider endowed with radioactivity which gives him his remarkable powers. Later in the volume, Peter as Spider-Man tries his best to bring down Kingpin, but is so new at fighting crime that the boss at the Daily Bugle thinks Spidey himself is a criminal! He does of course triumph eventually, but only after having a great deal of difficulty.
Also in this book, the reader is introduced to Gwen Stacy, the daughter of the police captain who captures Peter's interest. Gwen is quite different from good girl Mary Jane, and is quite a handful for her father and Peter alike. Around the time he meets Gwen, Peter as Spider-Man has two different villains chasing him -- Doctor Octopus and Kraven the Hunter. Next, the reader gets to see the Green Goblin, who knows Peter's identity but does not reveal it due to his own insidious plans. Later in the book, a criminal who has been robbing banks dressed as Spider-Man gives Peter a great deal of trouble as well as problems with the police. Towards the end of the volume, Mary Jane breaks up with Peter because she knows his superhero secret and doesn't want to deal with it anymore. Peter also meets Eddie Brock Jr., who many fans know as the infamous villain Venom.
The Ultimate Spider-Man Collection is colorfully and beautifully illustrated and written, and a must-have for any Spider-Man fan. Anyone that liked the movies but never read the comics will find this book fascinating. It's certainly a good way for parents to get their young Spidey fans to read more!
