A Review of Spider-Man 2
If you have missed the movie, here is a quick review to start off your appetite. This film is the sequel to the blockbuster hit Spiderman and stars Tobey Maguire in the lead role and Kirsten Dunst as his love interest Mary Jane Watson. Like the first film, this one was also directed by Sam Raimi. So what can you expect from this movie? Read on if you want to find out!
The beginning of the film finds Peter Parker two years after the end of the first movie. He experiences money troubles, job loss, and personal problems. His ex-friend Harry Osborn is blaming Spider-Man for his father's death and is angry at Peter because he seems loyal to Spider-Man. Of course, Harry doesn't know that Peter is Spider-Man or that his deceased father was the Green Goblin, a treacherous villain. Drama ensues even further when Peter's aunt faces losing her home, and when his love interest Mary Jane gets a new boyfriend.
A new villain by the name of Doctor Octopus is introduced when Peter's idol Otto Octavius suffers a devastating accident involving mechanical arms which kills his wife, ruins his career and turns him into an evil creature. He tries to burglarize a bank where Peter Parker just happens to be, and while he stops the robbery in the guise of Spider-Man his aunt is taken hostage by Doctor Octopus.
This movie is filled with drama as well as twists and turns. Peter renounces his spider powers, but eventually picks them back up again when Mary Jane, who is engaged yet still romantically interested in Peter and starting to think he might be Spider-Man, is abducted by Doctor Octopus. This causes Peter to rethink his decision about giving up his powers and get back into superhero mode. By the end of the movie, Harry discovers his father was the Green Goblin. And, Mary Jane breaks off her engagement and professes her love for Peter.
All in all, Spider-Man 2 lives up to the hype surrounding it. It's a fitting sequel to the first Spider-Man movie and sets things up nicely for the next installment, to be released in 2007. If you enjoyed the first Spider-Man movie, then you're sure to love this one!
